The Origin of the Concept
This project is a comprehensive work that includes planning and designing the site, architecture, and the exhibits inside. By creating a series of spatial experiences, I wanted to encourage visitors to have a conversation with themselves.
Function & Theme
In order to explore the three themes, designing a small pavilion would be a reasonable choice for me.
Form
I asked four important questions to finally comfirm the form of the architecture.
-
1. Question: how can the new architecture be compatible with the established surrounding?
- Answer: blur the boundary between architecture and site.
-
2. Question: how does the architecture echo with the themes?
- Answer: set the structure of the pavilion as a loop path.
-
3. Question: how do people enter the new architecture?
- Answer: through verandas.
-
4. Question: is it possible to make the spatial experience of visitors outside become a part of the whole exhibition?
- Answer: design the verandas outside the architecture in a similar loop structure as the path inside.
size
The size or the scale of space is an important aspect that’s often ignored by designers. By considering the visual field of human, I deducted the minimun size of the pavilion.
