The Origin of the topic
When I was exploring the topic for the final project, some images caught my eyes. The map beneath was a portion of them.
It was a part of Napoleon’s cadastre (1808), recorded by a kind of special map that I never saw before — the numbers on the map was the index for readers to look into the detailed information (including the owners, the functions, even the structures of the architecture around that era) of each part of the architecture.
I was really excited when I found these resources among the materials I brought back from a workshop, with which it would be possible for people to really dig into the real lives of people living there in that era, especially people living in the “Ghetto.” Therefore, I decided to do a project on the topic of “Venetian Ghetto.”
In my initial plan, to analyze the detailed information of one of “Venetian Ghetto” was my last part of the whole project. Unfortunately, the data I had was incomplete, and it needed more time to translate the Italians in the excel file to English. So I finally gave it up and finished the first two parts to introduce Venetian Ghetto in general.
